Main Interests
In her varied travels to local communities and other states, Dr. Fergus gives lectures and participates in conferences about disease processes involving African Americans and other high risk groups. She has organized several health fairs and Women’s Expos.
Awards
Dr. Icilma Fergus attended Harlem Preparatory School where she was the Valedictorian and became the first person from this school to achieve such high scores on her SATs, whereupon she was awarded a number of scholarships and awards including a United Federation of Teachers scholarship.
In 1993, she was awarded the Davidoff Teaching award for excellence and appointed as Chief Medical Resident.
She was awarded Lang Research Center grant in 2001 for work involving measuring of mitral regurgitation and cardiac volumes in heart failure patients with 3 Dimensional Echocardiography.
National Recognition
She has appeared on numerous radio and TV talk shows including a recently repeatedly run show on Heart Disease in Women on QPTV, seen in Queens and parts of Brooklyn. She was recently quoted in a news magazine Smarthealth which is distributed to 10,000 seniors in Queens.
